Nachlese zur 58. asp-Tagung in Heidelberg
From May 14th to May 16th, Heidelberg University’s Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences (ISSW) hosted the German Sport Psychological Society’s 58th annual conference (https://asp-tagung.de/) in Heidelberg, Germany. The main conference was preceded by the asp’s traditional meeting for PhD students, a workshop for postdoctoral, early career researchers, an intervision session for applied sport psychologists, and a visit to the TSG ResearchLab in Zuzenhausen. Four keynote speakers shared their perspectives on this year’s motto “Smart Judgement and Decision Making”: Prof.Julia Schüler (University of Konstanz) opened the conference with a motivational perspective on predictors and consequences of physical effort. Prof. Cornelia Betsch (Erfurt University) addressed the implications of (smart) decision making in health communication and prevention.
Prof. Alex Krumer (Molde University College) discussed how sports can be seen as a laboratory to study human behaviour and decision making. Finally, Prof. i.R. Günter Amesberger (Salzburg University) closed the conference by
examining action competence in the context of physical activity and sports.
During the main conference, over 300 researchers and practitioners from Germany, Austria and Switzerland took part in 29 scientific symposia and 16 workshops aimed at applied sport psychologists. The poster session brought all guests together in the sports hall to view and discuss over 40 contributions.
The conference did not only provide food for thought but also the opportunity for all to catch up and engage around pastries, snacks and coffee during the breaks. On Friday night, these discussions carried on at the conference dinner held at Heidelberg’s most popular venue, Halle02. Proving it is not smart to judge a book by its cover, the faculty’s dean delivered a great show as DJ Carnival. Those who decided to leave early may want to reconsider the quality of their decision-making…
